It has been my privilege to know, and serve alongside, Dr. Manh Dang as his Pastor and friend for more than twenty years. When my family moved to Huntsville, AL in 1996 to plant a new church, his lovely wife, Karen was a key member of our original core team. It was several months later, at the baptism of their triplet boys, when Manh attended a service at our new church for the first time. This marked the beginning of a spiritual journey for him that has not only been life changing for him, but to many others he has impacted along the way.
Rarely, if ever, have I encountered a more kind and gentle soul. As a Medical Oncologist, Dr. Dang exhibits an empathy and compassion for his patients that is fueled and enhanced by his deep faith. In addition to his vocational work, Manh has dedicated his life to demonstrating God’s love to people in some of the poorest places in the world. He has tirelessly devoted his time, talent and treasure to partner with various Christ-centered missions, particularly in Kenya and the Dominican Republic.
Over the past several years, Mahn’s friends and followers on social media have marveled at the heartfelt eloquence of his inspirational posts. Many of us have urged him to consider publishing a compilation of these posts in book form, so a wider audience could benefit from their wisdom. Mahn’s humility made him reluctant to do so. But persistence paid off and you, the readers, are the beneficiaries.
The honest reflections contained in these pages come from a very deep place. Manh writes from his experiences as a Christian, physician, missionary, husband, father, and friend. He immigrated to the United States as a child, with his family of origin, during the height of the Vietnam War. This gives him a unique perspective and love for our country and the freedoms we enjoy, but often take for granted.
Finally, it came as no surprise to me that the proceeds from this book will benefit mission causes close to Manh’s heart around the world. I pray you will be as blessed as I have been by these writings. And may you be doubly blessed by knowing that, in doing so, you are helping to share God’s love with others in need.
